Welcome Goksenin!

We are excited to welcome Goksenin Sen aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson for the second leg of NEPTUNE Canada’s maintenance cruise, Wiring the Abyss 2012.

Goksenin Sen, marine educator.
Goksenin translates into “sky is yours”. True to her name, she has pursued a life of exploration and adventure from an early age. She thoroughly enjoys travelling, scuba diving and sailing. She co-founded and raced in the first and only all-girls offshore sailing team in Turkey.

Goksenin’s adventures have also encompassed the academic world. She has a Master’s degree in science education and has taught high school physics. Presently she is pursuing a PhD in science education within the Curriculum and Instruction Department at University of Victoria. When not engaged with her studies, Goksenin also volunteers as the Let’s Talk Science coordinator at University of Victoria. Let’s Talk Science is a national organization that aims at improving science literacy among K–12 students.

Given her passions for science, education and adventure, joining the Wiring the Abyss 2012 cruise was a natural fit. Goksenin is the current marine educator on board in the Ship2Shore program.

Follow Goksenin’s journey at sea through her upcoming blogs!
